Abovedeck Hydraulically Driven Air Compressors Maintenance Schedule at a Glance

Use this quick-reference table to plan service intervals across all Abovedeck Hydraulically Driven models. For model-specific torque specs, oil capacities, and part numbers, always refer to the machine’s operator manual.

Service Item 50-Hour (Break-In) 500-Hour / Annual Cold Weather Prep
Compressor oil change Required Required Verify viscosity rating
Oil filter Replace Replace Replace
Air filter Inspect Replace Inspect
Oil separator Inspect Replace Inspect
Moisture separator Inspect Inspect / Replace Drain and inspect
Pressure relief valve Inspect Test and verify Inspect
Check valves Inspect Inspect / Replace Inspect
Hydraulic fittings and hoses Inspect for leaks Inspect for leaks Inspect for cracking
Block heater (if equipped) N/A N/A Test before first cold start
Thermostat (if equipped) N/A N/A Verify operation
Full system leak check Required Required Required
Canopy hardware and latches Inspect Inspect Inspect

Key rule: The 50-hour break-in service is not optional. Skipping it accelerates air end wear and can void warranty coverage on affected components. After break-in, default to the 500-hour or annual interval, whichever comes first.

High-Utilization Fleets

For machines running more than 1,500 hours per year, Vanair® recommends shortening the standard service interval to every 250 hours. Heavy-duty and continuous-duty applications place greater thermal and mechanical load on filters, oil, and separators, and the standard annual interval may not be sufficient to protect air end life.

Signs a compressor may need service ahead of schedule:

  • Oil carryover in the air line
  • Elevated operating temperature
  • Unusual noise or vibration during operation
  • Reduced output pressure or CFM
  • Hydraulic oil contamination in the compressor system

Frequently Asked Questions

What parts do I need for a 500-hour service on a Vanair® abovedeck hydraulic compressor?

A standard 500-hour service typically requires compressor oil, an oil filter, an air filter, and an oil separator. Some models also call for moisture separator service and a pressure relief valve test at this interval. The exact part numbers depend on your specific model and serial number range. Use the model-specific parts page or contact Vanair® to confirm the correct kit before ordering.

Can I use non-OEM filters and oil in my Vanair® abovedeck compressor?

Vanair® does not recommend using non-OEM filters, oil, or separators in Abovedeck Hydraulically Driven compressors. These machines are engineered to specific airflow, pressure, and hydraulic system tolerances. Aftermarket parts that do not meet those specs can accelerate wear, cause oil carryover, or create pressure inconsistencies. Using genuine Vanair® parts also keeps your machine aligned with its warranty terms.

How do I find the correct part number for my compressor model?

Start with the data plate mounted on the compressor canopy. It lists the model name and serial number, both of which are required to confirm correct part fitment. Part numbers can vary between serial number ranges within the same model. Once you have both, you can search the Vanair® parts store by model or submit a parts quote request for assistance.

What is the difference between the Reliant™ RC40 and RC40-L maintenance kits?

The RC40 uses a steel canopy configuration, while the RC40-L uses an aluminum canopy and air end. This difference affects some service components, including canopy hardware and certain air end-adjacent parts. The core oil, filter, and separator service items are similar, but kit part numbers differ. Always verify against the specific model designation before ordering.

Does Vanair® offer cold weather service kits for abovedeck hydraulic compressors?

Yes. Vanair® offers dedicated cold weather service kits for compressors equipped with the cold weather package. These kits include components for block heater inspection, thermostat verification, and cold-start system service. If your machine operates in climates that regularly drop below freezing, cold weather kit service should be performed before the winter season begins and verified again in early spring.

How do I contact Vanair® for parts support or warranty questions?

Vanair® parts support and warranty questions are handled by the Vanair® Service Department, reachable at 1-844-826-7378. For online parts ordering, genuine OEM maintenance kits, and replacement parts for all Reliant™ models, find a Vanair® Authorized Parts Distributor near you or shop their online store. When contacting service, have your machine package serial number and compressor serial number ready — both are required to confirm your exact configuration and process warranty or RMA requests.
